Common questions about preparing for this exam
NDA has 2 papers: Paper I is Mathematics (120 questions, 300 marks, 2.5 hours) and Paper II is General Ability Test (150 questions, 600 marks, 2.5 hours). Both are MCQ-based with negative marking. Total: 900 marks.
You must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years of age. For Army wing, you need to have passed Class 12. For Air Force and Naval wings, you need Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics. Only unmarried male and female candidates can apply.
For Maths, Physics, and Chemistry — yes, NCERT Class 11-12 is sufficient. For History and Geography, NCERTs from Class 8-12 are the best source. For Current Affairs, you'll need a newspaper or monthly magazine.
After clearing the written exam, shortlisted candidates appear for an SSB Interview (5-day process). The SSB tests your personality, intelligence, and officer-like qualities. Final merit is based on written exam + SSB scores combined.
NDA cutoffs vary each time. Generally, the written exam cutoff is around 340-370 out of 900, and the final cutoff (written + SSB) is around 700-720 out of 1800. Aim for 450+ in the written to be safely above the cutoff.
