CBSE Revaluation 2026 — Verification of Marks, Photocopy & Process
How to apply for CBSE revaluation 2026 — verification of marks, obtaining answer sheet photocopy, fees, deadline, process, and whether it actually helps.

When Should You Apply?
| Scenario | Should You Apply? | Which Service? |
|---|---|---|
| Marks much lower than expected | Yes — definitely | Both (Verification + Photocopy) |
| Failed by 1–5 marks | Yes — high priority | Both (even a small totalling error could pass you) |
| Marks slightly lower than expected | Consider it — especially if marks matter for admission | Verification first, photocopy if needed |
| Happy with marks | No need | — |
| Marks seem surprisingly HIGH | Do NOT apply — marks could decrease | — |
What the Photocopy Reveals
When you receive your answer sheet photocopy, check for:
- Unevaluated answers: Sometimes an examiner misses a page or a question. If you can see your answer but no marks are awarded next to it, this is a clear error.
- Totalling errors: Add up all the individual question marks yourself. Compare with the total shown on the answer sheet. Discrepancies of 1–3 marks are surprisingly common.
- Page-turning errors: If your answer continues on the next page, check if the examiner saw both pages. Long answers sometimes get partially evaluated.
- Marking scheme compliance: Compare your answers with the official marking scheme (download from cbseacademic.nic.in). If your answer deserves step marks that were not awarded, you have found an issue — but remember, CBSE won't re-evaluate.

| Verification Result | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Marks increased | CBSE issues a revised marksheet. The original marksheet becomes invalid. Download the new one from DigiLocker. |
| No change | Your original marks stand. Fee is not refunded. |
| Marks decreased | Revised (lower) marksheet issued. Rare but possible. This is a risk you accept when applying. |
| Now passed (was failed) | Revised marksheet shows pass status. You can proceed with admissions normally. |
Other Options If Marks Are Low
- Compartment Exam: If you failed in 1–2 subjects, appear for the CBSE Compartment Exam (July–August). Same difficulty as the main exam.
- Improvement Exam: If you passed but want higher marks, you can appear again in the next board exam cycle. The better score of the two is considered.
- CUET: For central university admissions, CUET score matters more than board marks. Focus on CUET preparation if your target is DU/JNU/BHU.
- State Universities: Many state universities have lower cutoffs. Explore options in your state.
- Skill-Based Courses: Courses in design, hotel management, media, and vocational fields have separate entrance exams where board marks are secondary.

Does CBSE allow revaluation of answer sheets?
No, CBSE does NOT allow revaluation (re-checking by a different examiner). CBSE only allows: (1) Verification of Marks — checking if all answers were evaluated and marks totalled correctly, (2) Obtaining Photocopy — getting a photocopy of your evaluated answer sheet. These are the only two options. If verification reveals an error, CBSE corrects the marks.
How much does CBSE verification of marks cost?
Verification of Marks: ₹500 per subject. Obtaining Photocopy: ₹500 per subject. You can apply for both simultaneously. Payment is online through the CBSE portal. The fee is non-refundable, even if no change in marks is found.
What is the deadline for applying for CBSE verification?
CBSE typically gives 15–20 days from the date of result declaration. The exact deadline is announced along with the results. Apply as early as possible — do NOT wait until the last day. Check cbse.gov.in for the exact deadline for 2026 results.
Can marks decrease after verification?
Yes, marks can increase, decrease, or remain the same after verification. If CBSE finds that a totalling error gave you MORE marks than deserved, your marks will be reduced. However, this is rare. In most cases, marks either increase slightly or remain unchanged. The risk of decrease is very low.
How long does CBSE verification take?
CBSE typically processes verification requests within 15–21 days. Results of verification are communicated through the CBSE portal and via email/SMS. If marks change, a revised marksheet is issued. Check the CBSE portal regularly after applying.
Should I apply for verification or photocopy?
Apply for BOTH if you suspect errors. Photocopy lets you SEE your answer sheet — you can check if any answer was skipped by the examiner, if marks were added correctly, or if any page was missed. Verification only checks totalling. Photocopy + verification together give you the complete picture for ₹1,000 per subject.
