Frequently Asked Questions
How to convert CGPA to percentage for CBSE?▾
Multiply your CGPA by 9.5. For example, a CGPA of 8.2 is 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%. This was CBSE's official conversion when Class 10 results were given as CGPA; current CBSE marksheets show marks and grades instead, so you only need it for an older CGPA marksheet.
What is the CGPA to percentage formula?▾
The most common formula is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5, from CBSE's CGPA scheme. Many universities publish their own conversion, often printed on the marksheet — use that when it exists. For a 4-point GPA, a rough conversion is Percentage = GPA × 25.
Is CGPA 9.5 equal to 90%?▾
Yes, for the CBSE grading system, a CGPA of 9.5 equals 90.25% (9.5 × 9.5 = 90.25). A CGPA of 10 equals 95% (10 × 9.5 = 95%).
How is CGPA calculated from marks?▾
Under CBSE's old CGPA scheme, each subject's marks were turned into a grade point on a 10-point scale and CGPA was the average of the five main subjects' grade points (the additional 6th subject was left out). Universities work out CGPA from grade points weighted by course credits.
Can I use the CBSE CGPA formula for ICSE?▾
CISCE (ICSE/ISC) gives marks, not CGPA, so there is no official ICSE conversion. If a school report shows a 10-point CGPA, × 9.5 is the usual approximation — check with whoever is asking for the percentage.
What percentage is 7.5 CGPA in CBSE?▾
A CGPA of 7.5 in CBSE equals 71.25% (7.5 × 9.5 = 71.25%).
