Frequently Asked Questions

How is NEET rank calculated from marks?

NEET ranks candidates by marks out of 720, not by percentile. If two candidates have the same marks, NTA breaks the tie by higher Biology marks, then Chemistry, then Physics, then a lower ratio of wrong to right answers (overall, then Biology, Chemistry and Physics). If the tie still stands, it is resolved by a random process overseen by an expert committee.

In NEET 2026, General/EWS candidates needed 213 marks (the 50th percentile; 715–213 range), OBC/SC/ST candidates 177 (40th percentile) and General/EWS-PwBD candidates 194 (45th percentile). In 2025 the same percentiles mapped to 144, 113 and 127 marks, because the paper was harder. Qualifying only makes you eligible for counselling — a government MBBS seat needs a far higher rank.

From NTA's official figures for the 21 June 2026 exam: 19 candidates scored above 700, 138 above 690, 1,492 scored 650 or more, 10,160 scored 600 or more and 90,780 scored 500 or more, out of 19,99,895 who appeared. The top score was 715. This tool interpolates between those points.

Only roughly. The marks needed for a given rank move with the paper's difficulty — the top score was 686 in 2025 and 715 in 2026 — and NEET-UG moves to computer-based testing from 2027. Use the estimate to see where a score would have stood last year, not as a promise.

It depends on your category, state and the counselling round, and it changes every year. Check the previous year's opening and closing ranks published by the Medical Counselling Committee (mcc.nic.in) for the All India Quota, and your state counselling authority for state quota seats.

Yes. NTA issues one All India Rank based on marks, the same whatever your category. Counselling authorities then build category and state merit lists from that rank.
