Frequently Asked Questions

Where do these closing ranks come from?

From JoSAA's official opening and closing rank pages: the final round of JoSAA 2026 (Round 5) and of JoSAA 2025 (Round 6), for Open seats, using JEE Main Common Rank List (CRL) ranks. Seats left after JoSAA go to CSAB special rounds, which are not included.

You fill a list of institute and programme choices, and JoSAA allots seats round by round on your JEE Main rank, category, gender pool and preference order. At NITs, half the seats are for candidates from the state the NIT is in (home-state quota) and half for everyone else (other-state quota), which is why closing ranks differ so much between the two.

For Open, gender-neutral, other-state seats in the final round of JoSAA 2026, Computer Science closed at AIR 1,373 at NIT Trichy, 1,954 at Surathkal, 2,581 at Warangal, 4,266 at Rourkela and 5,769 at Calicut. Home-state closing ranks are higher (easier) — enter your state above to see yours.

Yes, as a floor: any candidate can take an Open seat on their CRL rank, so every programme listed is open to you. Your category seats usually close at a much higher category rank, which JoSAA publishes on josaa.nic.in for each round.

No. IIIT Hyderabad and IIIT Bangalore run their own admissions, and IIIT Delhi admits through JAC Delhi, so they are not part of JoSAA counselling and are not in this tool.
