Frequently Asked Questions

How is JEE Main rank calculated from percentile?

A percentile tells you what share of candidates scored at or below you, so the number ahead of you is roughly (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × total candidates. With the 15,38,468 candidates who appeared in JEE Main 2026, a 98 percentile works out to about ((100 − 98) ÷ 100) × 15,38,468 ≈ 30,769. NTA normalises each shift into percentiles and publishes the final All India Rank after Session 2, so treat this as an estimate.

About 76,900 on the 2026 candidate count (5% of 15,38,468). If more candidates appear in the next session, the same percentile maps to a slightly higher (worse) rank.

No. Percentile is the share of candidates who scored at or below you in your shift; percentage is (your marks ÷ 300) × 100. A 95 percentile means 95% of candidates in your shift scored the same as or less than you — it says nothing directly about your marks.

NTA reported 16,04,854 registered and 15,38,468 unique candidates who appeared in JEE Main 2026 across both sessions. This tool uses 15,38,468 to turn a percentile into a rank.

The 2026 JEE Advanced qualifying percentiles were 93.41 (General), 82.42 (GEN-EWS), 80.92 (OBC-NCL), 63.92 (SC), 52.02 (ST) and 0.0023 (PwD). Pick your category above to see how your percentile compares. The cutoff changes every year.

NIT seats go by rank through JoSAA, not by percentile. In JoSAA 2025's final round (Other-State quota, Open, gender-neutral), Computer Science closed at AIR 1,449 at NIT Trichy, 1,827 at Surathkal, 2,409 at Warangal, 3,431 at Rourkela and 5,222 at Calicut. You also need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) or a top-20-percentile board score.
