How to Score 90%+ in State Board Exams

Scoring 90%+ in a state board exam is very achievable. The plan below works across state boards for Class 10 and Class 12: know the textbook inside out, practise past papers, and write answers the way examiners want.

Step 1: Master the Textbook

• State board papers are written from the prescribed textbooks — they are your main source.
• Read every chapter at least three times — first to understand, then to make notes, then to revise.
• Mark key definitions, formulas and concepts.
• Don't skip diagrams and maps — they carry marks.

Step 2: Use Past Papers

• Solve several years of your board's past papers — question types repeat.
• List the questions that come up again and again and make sure you can answer them fully.
• Time yourself — finish papers within the allowed time.
• Learn your board's marking pattern — how many points each answer needs.

Step 3: Answer Writing

• Start with a definition or key statement — it shows clarity.
• Use points and sub-headings — easier for examiners to mark.
• Draw labelled diagrams where they fit the question.
• Stick to the expected length — don't over-write or under-write.

Step 4: The Last Month

• Weeks 1–2: complete revision of every subject.
• Week 3: full papers under timed conditions.
• Week 4: revision only — formula sheets, key terms, diagrams.
• Sleep 7–8 hours — a rested brain remembers more.
