ICSE Class 10 Maths Weightage — How Marks Are Spread and What to Prioritise

ICSE Class 10 Maths marks explained: one 80-mark paper in two sections plus 20 internal marks, why CISCE gives no chapter weightage, and how to prioritise.

ICSE Class 10 Mathematics is one 80-mark written paper plus 20 marks of internal assessment. CISCE does not publish chapter-wise weightage, so the smart way to prioritise for the 2027 ICSE exam is to learn the paper structure and see which topics keep coming up in specimen and past papers.

How to Prioritise Without Chapter Weightage

  1. Cover the whole syllabus — Section A is compulsory and can test any chapter.
  2. Use past papers as your weightage guide — list the topics that come up every year and practise them most.
  3. Practise the longer Section B questions under timed conditions so you can choose well on the day.
  4. Keep a formula sheet — see our ICSE Class 10 Maths formulas guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CISCE publish chapter-wise weightage for ICSE Maths?

No. CISCE's syllabus does not assign fixed marks to each chapter. The written paper is 80 marks, plus 20 marks of internal assessment, and questions can come from any part of the syllabus. Use the specimen paper and past ICSE papers to see which topics come up most.

In CISCE's specimen papers, the 80-mark paper has two sections of 40 marks each: Section A is compulsory, and Section B offers a choice of questions. Check the 2027 specimen paper on cisce.org for the exact instructions.

Not recommended. Because there is no fixed chapter weightage and Section A is compulsory, a skipped chapter can cost you marks in both sections.
