Syllabus Comparison: 2027 vs Previous Years

The JEE Main syllabus was significantly reduced in 2023 when NTA aligned it with the updated NCERT curriculum. The 2027 syllabus is expected to follow the same reduced format. Key points:

  • Communication Systems — removed (was part of Physics earlier).
  • Mathematical Reasoning — removed from Mathematics.
  • Semiconductor Electronics — reduced to basic diodes and transistors.
  • Environmental Chemistry — not tested in JEE Main (only in NEET).
  • Some Organic named reactions — reduced list compared to pre-2023.

Do not waste time studying removed topics. Use the official NTA syllabus document (released with the notification) as your checklist.

How to Use This Syllabus Guide

  1. Print or save the topic tables above. Use them as a checklist — tick off each topic as you complete it.
  2. Start with high-priority chapters. If you complete all "High" priority topics thoroughly, you cover 70-75% of the paper.
  3. Match each topic to your textbook chapter. NCERT chapter names align closely with the syllabus topics listed above.
  4. Track weightage. Spend more time on high-weightage units. Mechanics (30% of Physics) deserves more hours than EM Waves (2%).
  5. Revisit this page when NTA releases the official 2027 notification — we will update any changes immediately.

Has the JEE Main 2027 syllabus changed from 2026?

NTA has not announced any syllabus changes for JEE Main 2027 as of March 2026. The syllabus is expected to remain the same as JEE Main 2026, which was based on the reduced NCERT syllabus introduced in 2023. We will update this page immediately if NTA announces any changes.

JEE Main 2027 covers approximately 90 chapters across three subjects: Physics (~28 chapters), Chemistry (~30 chapters across Physical, Organic, and Inorganic), and Mathematics (~32 chapters). Not all chapters carry equal weight — about 15-20 high-priority chapters contribute to 60% of the paper.

Physics: Mechanics (30%), Electrodynamics (25%), Optics & Modern Physics (20%). Chemistry: Physical Chemistry (35%), Organic Chemistry (30%), Inorganic Chemistry (35%). Mathematics: Calculus (35%), Algebra (25-30%), Coordinate Geometry (20%). Focus on these areas first.

JEE Advanced has a broader and deeper syllabus than JEE Main. It includes additional topics like Electrochemistry of solutions (detailed), Thermal Physics (advanced), and has harder problem levels. If you prepare for JEE Advanced, JEE Main syllabus is automatically covered.

Chapters removed in the 2023 syllabus revision (still removed in 2027): Communication Systems, Semiconductor Electronics (reduced), some Organic Chemistry named reactions, Mathematical Reasoning, and parts of Statistics. Focus only on the current NTA syllabus, not older textbook content.

No. NTA strictly follows the published syllabus. Studying deleted chapters wastes time that should go to high-weightage topics. Check the official NTA syllabus document and match it with the topics listed in this guide.

Divide chapters into three tiers: Tier 1 (high weightage + easy to score — do these first), Tier 2 (moderate weightage — do these next), Tier 3 (low weightage or very difficult — do these last if time permits). The priority tables in this guide follow this approach.

Both are equally important. Class 11 contributes about 45-50% of questions and Class 12 contributes 50-55%. However, Class 11 topics (Mechanics, Algebra, Physical Chemistry basics) form the foundation for Class 12 topics, so they are conceptually more important.
