NEET Cutoff — Category Wise (Gen/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) Qualifying Marks and Closing Ranks

NEET qualifying cutoff by category — official NTA marks for 2024, 2025 and 2026 — plus MCC 2025 closing ranks for AIIMS and government medical colleges.

The NEET 2026 qualifying cutoff for General/EWS was 213 marks (50th percentile) out of 720, and 177 for OBC/SC/ST — both far higher than 2025's 144 and 113. For admission, what matters is rank: in MCC 2025, AIIMS Delhi's Open seats closed at AIR 48 and the last Open All India Quota government MBBS seat went at AIR 26,178. This guide covers official qualifying cutoffs, college closing ranks and multi-year trends.

NEET Qualifying Cutoff — 2026, 2025 and 2024 (Official)

The qualifying cutoff determines whether you are eligible for counselling. It does NOT guarantee admission.

AIIMS and Government College Closing Ranks (MCC 2025)

Qualifying is easy. Getting into a good college is the real challenge. These are MCC 2025 closing All India Ranks — 2026 counselling runs until mid-October, so no 2026 closing ranks exist yet.

Closing AIR = highest All India Rank allotted an MBBS seat in that category in MCC 2025 Rounds 1–3 (MCC allotment results). AIIMS and JIPMER seats are filled entirely by MCC; for state colleges these are the 15% All India Quota seats. Deemed universities, also filled through MCC, admitted Open-category candidates past AIR 9 lakh by Round 3.

NEET Score vs Rank (2026 Re-exam)

NTA does not publish a full marks-to-rank table, but its 2026 result press release gives these anchor points. Your rank is roughly the number of candidates who scored at least as much as you:

Score (out of 720)Candidates at or above (≈ AIR)
Above 70019
Above 690138
650 and above1,492
600 and above10,160
500 and above90,780
213 and above (General qualifying mark)9,96,935

The same marks can mean a very different rank in another year — in 2025, a harder paper, only about 1,330 candidates scored above 600 (reported). See our NEET score to rank guide for which colleges each rank band reached.

AIQ Closing Ranks at Top State Colleges (MCC 2025, Open)

State quota (85%) closing ranks are published by each state's counselling authority and vary a lot by state. For a like-for-like comparison, these are the 2025 Open-category closing ranks for the 15% All India Quota seats at well-known government colleges in each state:

NEET Counselling Process Overview

  1. MCC Counselling: 15% All India Quota seats in state government colleges, plus all seats at AIIMS, JIPMER, central universities, deemed universities and AFMC. Conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (mcc.nic.in).
  2. State Quota Counselling: 85% of state government seats. Conducted by each state's counselling authority. Closing ranks vary significantly by state.
  3. Deemed Universities: Counselled by MCC (100% of seats). Fees are far higher than government colleges — check each university's fee notice.
  4. Private Colleges: Filled through state-level counselling. Fees vary widely by college and state and often run to several lakh rupees a year.

What to Do Based on Your Score

Your Score (2026-style paper)Action Plan
650+ (AIR up to about 1,500)Register for MCC counselling. Top AIIMS, JIPMER and the best government colleges are within range. Research your preference order carefully — this matters more than you think.
600–650 (AIR about 1,500–10,000)MCC + state counselling both. Many All India Quota government seats are within reach. List 20–30 colleges in preference order and be flexible on city and state.
500–600 (AIR about 10,000–91,000)AIQ government seats up to about AIR 26,000 (Open, 2025), plus state quota options. Also consider deemed universities and BDS as backups, and stay in the later rounds.
Below 500State quota (especially for reserved categories), deemed and private colleges. Check the full course fee before you fill choices.
Below the qualifying markConsider retaking NEET (one more attempt can make a huge difference). BDS and AYUSH courses also need a qualifying NEET score, so look at allied health programmes with their own admission routes as a backup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NEET cutoff for General category?

The General/EWS qualifying cutoff is the 50th percentile. In 2026 that was 715–213 marks out of 720; in 2025 it was 686–144. Qualifying only makes you eligible for counselling — it does not guarantee admission. In MCC 2025, the last Open-category All India Quota government MBBS seat went to AIR 26,178 (Round 3), and in the 2026 re-exam 10,160 candidates scored 600 or more.

Seats are allotted by rank. In MCC 2025 Round 3, the last All India Quota government MBBS seat went to AIR 26,178 (Open), 26,231 (OBC), 29,997 (EWS), 1,36,445 (SC) and 1,62,975 (ST). State quota seats have their own closing ranks, published by each state's counselling authority, and they vary a lot by state, category and round.

In MCC 2025, AIIMS New Delhi's MBBS seats closed at AIR 48 (Open), 207 (OBC), 254 (EWS), 644 (SC) and 1,405 (ST). There were 48 Open-category seats in Round 1, and the top 48 rankers took all of them. For scale, in the 2026 re-exam only 19 candidates scored above 700 and 138 above 690.

In NEET 2026: General/EWS needed 213 marks (50th percentile), OBC/SC/ST needed 177 (40th percentile), General/EWS-PwBD needed 194 (45th percentile) and reserved-category PwBD needed 177. In 2025 the same cutoffs were 144, 113, 127 and 113. These are only qualifying marks — actual MBBS admission needs much higher ranks.

In the 2026 re-exam, 500 marks meant an All India Rank of about 90,780. That is beyond the 2025 All India Quota government range for Open, OBC and EWS candidates (about AIR 26,000–30,000), but within it for SC (1,36,445) and ST (1,62,975) candidates. State quota government seats depend on your state and category. Deemed universities (through MCC) and private colleges (through state counselling) admit at much lower ranks, but their fees are far higher.

Yes. The qualifying percentile is fixed (50th for General/EWS, 40th for OBC/SC/ST), but the marks it maps to change with paper difficulty and the number of candidates. The General qualifying mark was 162 in 2024, 144 in 2025 and 213 in 2026. NEET-UG also moves to computer-based testing from 2027, so no reliable forecast for 2027 is possible yet.
