Is NEET syllabus based on NCERT only?
The NEET syllabus is notified by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and closely follows the NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. For Biology especially, most questions track NCERT lines closely. For Physics and Chemistry, NCERT concepts are tested, but problem-solving practice from additional books helps.
How many chapters are there in NEET syllabus?
The NMC syllabus is organised into 50 units: 20 in Physics, 20 in Chemistry and 10 in Biology. Each unit covers one or more NCERT chapters. Not all carry equal weight — focus on high-yield chapters first.
Which chapters are most important for NEET?
Chapters that carry a lot of questions in recent papers: Biology — Genetics (Molecular Basis of Inheritance, Principles of Inheritance), Human Physiology, Plant Physiology. Physics — Mechanics, Optics, Modern Physics, Electrostatics. Chemistry — Organic Chemistry (GOC, named reactions), Chemical Bonding, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium. NTA publishes no official weightage, so treat this as an approximate guide.
Have any chapters been removed from the NEET syllabus?
Yes. NMC trimmed the syllabus for NEET 2024, and the NEET-UG 2026 bulletin says the 2026 syllabus was unchanged from 2025. Chapters not in the current syllabus include Digestion and Absorption, Transport in Plants, Mineral Nutrition, Reproduction in Organisms and Environmental Issues (Biology), and States of Matter, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, Surface Chemistry, Metallurgy, Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life (Chemistry). No NEET 2027 syllabus has been published yet — prepare from the 2026 one.
Is Class 11 syllabus important for NEET?
Extremely important. Class 11 topics make up a big part of the paper — roughly 40-50% by approximate estimates from recent papers (NTA publishes no official split). Key Class 11 chapters: Cell Biology, Plant Anatomy, Animal Kingdom (Biology), Laws of Motion, Thermodynamics (Physics), Chemical Bonding, Equilibrium (Chemistry). Many students neglect Class 11 — this is a major mistake.
How long does it take to complete the NEET syllabus?
For a focused student: 8–10 months for first completion (reading + notes + basic practice), then 2–3 months for revision and mock tests. If starting from scratch: 12 months is ideal. For droppers who have covered the syllabus once: 6 months of intensive revision and practice is sufficient. The key is completing at least 2 full revisions before the exam.
