UGC NET 2027 — Exam Guide

UGC NET 2027 dates are published by NTA in its official notification. Until then, treat any date you see as tentative and check the official website.
UGC NET key facts
- Two papers in one 3-hour computer-based sitting: Paper 1 (50 questions, 100 marks) and Paper 2 (100 questions, 200 marks). No negative marking.
- Held twice a year, in June and December cycles.
- Results fall into three categories: JRF + Assistant Professor + PhD admission, Assistant Professor + PhD admission, and PhD admission only. JRF has an age limit (30, with relaxations).
- UGC sets the eligibility rules; NTA conducts the exam (ugcnet.nta.nic.in).

Map the syllabus
Download the official syllabus and rate yourself 1–5 on every topic before you start.

Build a weekly plan
Split the syllabus into weekly targets and keep the final month for revision and full-length mocks.

Basics before speed
Get the fundamentals of each section right before moving on to hard, mixed-topic questions.

Mock tests every weekend
Take a full-length mock every weekend once you've covered the basics. Analyse — don’t just attempt.

Spaced revision
Revisit each topic at days 1, 7, 21 and 60, with a one-page summary per topic.
- 6
Fix weak areas
In the final 6 weeks, spend most of your time on your weakest topics. That’s where the biggest score gains live.
