Frequently Asked Questions
How is KCET rank calculated?
KCET rank is based on a combination of KCET exam marks (out of 180) and PUC/12th marks. The weightage is: 50% KCET marks + 50% PUC marks (qualifying exam). KEA normalises scores and ranks candidates based on the combined merit score.
What is the difference between KCET marks and KEA rank?
KCET marks are out of 180 and are based purely on your performance in the KCET exam. KEA rank is your final position out of all candidates, calculated as 50% KCET marks + 50% PUC qualifying exam marks (Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology). Two students with the same KCET marks can have different KEA ranks based on their PUC scores. This predictor estimates rank from KCET marks only — your final KEA rank may be higher or lower depending on your PUC marks.
What rank is needed for RVCE or BMS Bangalore?
For RV College of Engineering (RVCE) CSE branch, you typically need a KCET rank under 1,000 (General). For BMS College of Engineering CSE, a rank under 1,500 is usually required. MSRIT CSE: under 3,000. PES University, Dayananda Sagar, Sir MVIT: 3,000–10,000 range. Cutoffs for ECE and other branches are higher (easier rank).
What is a good KCET rank for top Bangalore engineering colleges?
Under 5,000 (General) is competitive for the top tier — RVCE, BMS, MSRIT, PES — across CSE, ECE, ISE branches. Ranks 5,000–15,000 open up second-tier branches at the same colleges plus other Bangalore engineering colleges (BIT, Dayananda Sagar, Sir MVIT). Ranks 15,000–25,000 work for government colleges in less popular branches and most private colleges with good placements.
When will KCET 2026 results be announced?
KEA typically announces KCET results within 4–6 weeks of the exam. KCET 2026 is expected to be held in April 2026, with results expected in May–June 2026. Counselling begins shortly after — usually mid-June. Check kea.kar.nic.in for the official date once announced.
How accurate is this KCET rank predictor?
The predictor uses KEA data from previous years (2024, 2025) to estimate your rank from your KCET marks alone. Accuracy is approximately ±20% for most score ranges. Your final KEA rank will differ because it includes 50% PUC/12th marks weightage. Use this as a directional indicator to plan your college choices, not as a guaranteed rank.
How many students appear for KCET?
Approximately 2.3 lakh students appear for KCET Engineering and 1.9 lakh for Medical stream each year. KCET is conducted by KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) for admission to engineering, medical, and other professional courses in Karnataka.
Can I get a government engineering college with 50,000 rank in KCET?
With a KCET rank of 50,000, getting a government engineering college in a popular branch (CSE, ECE, ISE) is difficult. However, you may get seats in government colleges in less popular branches (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical) or in aided/private colleges with good placements.
