x + 5, 2x² - 3x, y³ - 8

A binomial is a polynomial with exactly two terms. x + 5 (two terms), 2x² - 3x (two terms), and y³ - 8 (two terms) are binomials. x² + 2x + 1 has three terms (trinomial), and 7 has one term (monomial).

Quadratic polynomial

Polynomials are classified by their degree: degree 1 = linear, degree 2 = quadratic, degree 3 = cubic. A polynomial of degree 0 is a constant polynomial.

5x³, -7, 9y

A monomial is a polynomial with only one term. 5x³, -7, and 9y each have only one term. 2x + 1 and x² + x have two terms each, making them binomials.

To find the zero, set the polynomial equal to 0: 2x + 6 = 0. Solving: 2x = -6, so x = -3. We can verify: 2(-3) + 6 = -6 + 6 = 0.
