BITSAT Preparation Guide — Strategy, Syllabus & Tips

BITSAT preparation guide: the 130-question, 390-mark pattern, subject-wise strategy, time management, and the official cut-offs you need to beat.

BITSAT is the gateway to BITS Pilani's Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. Unlike JEE, BITSAT rewards speed and accuracy equally. BITSAT 2027 is expected in two sessions, in mid-April and late May 2027 — see our BITSAT 2027 dates page.

BITSAT Exam Pattern (2026)

SectionQuestionsMarks
Physics3090
Chemistry3090
Mathematics (or Biology)40120
English Proficiency1030
Logical Reasoning2060
Total130 (+12 optional extra)390

+3 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong one, 3 hours, computer-based, no sectional time limit. BITS confirms the 2027 pattern in its brochure on admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in.

What Makes BITSAT Unique

  • Speed is everything — about 83 seconds per question on average
  • Extra questions — answer all 130 and you may opt for 12 extra questions (3 each from Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology and Logical Reasoning); you can't go back afterwards and wrong answers still cost a mark
  • English & Logical Reasoning — sections JEE doesn't have, worth 90 marks together = relatively easy marks if prepared
  • Two sessions — sit one or both; your higher score counts

Subject-Wise Tips

  • Maths (120 marks): The biggest section. Practise quick methods for Calculus, Probability and Matrices.
  • Physics & Chemistry (90 marks each): NCERT-level concepts + quick formula recall
  • English & LR (90 marks): Relatively easy marks. Practise comprehension, grammar, series and basic puzzles. Aim for 70+/90.

Cut-offs to Aim For

Final BITSAT cut-offs for B.E. Computer Science in the 2026-27 admission session were 308/390 (Pilani), 274 (Goa) and 272 (Hyderabad). For every campus and branch, see our BITSAT 2027 preparation guide.
