Has CBSE changed the Class 10 syllabus for 2026-27?
The CBSE Curriculum 2026-27 is on cbseacademic.nic.in (curriculum_2027.html). For Class 10 the structure is familiar, and CBSE says there is no change in the question paper design. Some topics are assessed only by the school (for example, Periodic Classification of Elements in Science and The Age of Industrialisation in Social Science), and some are not in the syllabus at all (for example, Constructions in Maths). See our deleted-syllabus guide for the full list.
How many marks is the CBSE Class 10 board exam out of?
Each subject has 80 marks for the board exam and 20 marks for internal assessment, so 100 per subject and 500 across five subjects. Internal assessment is Periodic Assessment 5, Multiple Assessment 5, Portfolio 5 and Subject Enrichment 5 (practical work in Science).
Which units carry the most marks in Class 10 Maths?
In the 2026-27 syllabus: Algebra 20, Geometry 15, Trigonometry 12, Statistics and Probability 11, Mensuration 10, Number Systems 6 and Coordinate Geometry 6 — 80 in total.
Which units carry the most marks in Class 10 Science?
In the 2026-27 syllabus: Chemical Substances — Nature and Behaviour 25, World of Living 25, Effects of Current 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Natural Resources 5 — 80 in total.
Do I need to study topics that are assessed only in school?
Yes, for your school assessments. Topics marked 'assessed only formatively' or 'Periodic Assessment only' are not in the board exam, but your school tests them through internal assessment. Topics that are not in the syllabus at all are not assessed anywhere — though they may still help for Olympiads or later classes.
