10 Common CUET Registration Mistakes

  1. Wrong subject selection: Check university requirements BEFORE selecting subjects. Wrong subjects = ineligible for your target course.
  2. Not selecting enough subjects: Choose 5–6 subjects to keep maximum course options open.
  3. Ignoring the General Test: Some universities (JNU, BHU) require the General Test. Add it to be safe.
  4. Name mismatch: Name must match Class 12 certificate exactly.
  5. Not checking university-specific requirements: Each university has different subject combinations for each course.
  6. Missing the correction window: You can change subjects during the correction period — use it if you realise a mistake.
  7. Last-day registration: NTA servers crash. Register 5+ days before deadline.
  8. Forgetting to save confirmation: Download and save the confirmation page.
  9. Not planning exam schedule: CUET exams are spread across multiple days. Check if your subjects clash.
  10. Confusing CUET with university application: CUET registration ≠ university application. After CUET results, you must SEPARATELY apply on each university's portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CUET and why is it important?

CUET (Common University Entrance Test) is conducted by NTA for admission to 250+ central and participating universities including Delhi University, JNU, BHU, Jamia, and many state universities. Board marks are NOT used for admission at these universities — only CUET score matters. This means even if you scored low in boards, a good CUET score can get you into top universities.

General/OBC: ₹750 (up to 3 subjects), ₹1,500 (4–6 subjects), ₹1,750 (7+ subjects). SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: ₹375/₹750/₹875 respectively. Female candidates (all categories): same as SC/ST rates. Payment via UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking.

You can choose up to 6 domain subjects + 1 language + 1 general test = maximum 8 papers. Choose subjects that match the admission requirements of your target universities and courses. For example: DU BCom Hons requires Accountancy/Business Studies/Economics domain. Check each university's requirements before selecting subjects.

Yes, CUET is entirely based on NCERT Class 12 textbooks. The difficulty level is similar to board exams. If you have studied NCERT thoroughly for your board exam, you are already 80% prepared for CUET. Focus on MCQ practice since CUET is entirely MCQ-based (unlike board exams which have descriptive questions).

Yes. During CUET registration, you can select multiple universities and courses. There is no limit on the number of universities you can apply to through CUET. However, each university may have its own application process AFTER CUET results — you will need to apply separately on each university's portal using your CUET score.

Choose domain subjects that cover the maximum number of courses. For example: Maths + Economics + English covers BCom, BA Economics, BBA, BSc Maths. Accountancy covers BCom Hons. Political Science + History covers BA courses. You can decide your exact course after seeing your CUET scores. Keep options open by selecting 5–6 subjects.
