CUET Syllabus 2026 — Complete Subject List (Basis for 2027)

CUET (UG) 2026 syllabus: all 37 tests, what each covers, how many to choose, and why it is the basis for CUET 2027 prep until NTA updates it.

The CUET (UG) 2026 syllabus is the latest official one, and it is the basis for CUET 2027 preparation until NTA publishes the 2027 bulletin. Here is the exam structure, every test on offer, and what to prepare for each.

CUET Exam Structure

  • Languages — 13 options: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
  • Domain subjects — 23 options (listed below).
  • General Aptitude Test — general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning and basic maths.
  • How many: Up to 5 tests in total across all three groups. Each test has 50 compulsory MCQs in 60 minutes, marked +5 / −1 (250 marks).

Domain Subjects Available

  • Science — Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biological Science/Biotechnology/Biochemistry, Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, Computer Science/Information Practices, Environmental Science, Agriculture.
  • Commerce — Accountancy/Book Keeping, Business Studies, Economics/Business Economics.

  • Others — Physical Education (Yoga, Sports), Home Science, Mass Media/Mass Communication, Fine Arts/Visual Arts/Commercial Arts, Performing Arts (Dance, Drama, Music).

Subjects such as Legal Studies and Entrepreneurship are no longer offered — NTA cut the list from 63 to 37 subjects in 2025.

What Each Test Covers

  • Languages — Reading comprehension (factual, narrative and literary passages), verbal ability, vocabulary and literary aptitude.
  • Domain subjects — The Class 12 NCERT syllabus for that subject. NTA publishes a unit-wise syllabus for each one on cuet.nta.nic.in.
  • General Aptitude Test — General knowledge, current affairs, general mental ability, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning (simple arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration and statistics), logical and analytical reasoning, and general science and environment literacy.

Preparation Strategy

  • NCERT Class 12 is the primary source for domain subjects — the syllabus follows it.
  • The General Aptitude Test needs separate preparation — practise reasoning and GK.
  • Focus on accuracy — CUET has negative marking: −1 for each wrong answer.
  • Solve previous year CUET papers for the latest pattern. Papers from 2025 and 2026 match the current format best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CUET based on NCERT?

For domain subjects, yes: NTA's 2026 domain syllabi follow the Class 12 NCERT syllabus (the Physics syllabus, for example, lists the nine Class 12 units from Electrostatics to Electronic Devices). If you have prepared well for boards from NCERT, the content will be familiar — but CUET is all MCQs, so practise them. The language tests and the General Aptitude Test have their own syllabi.

You can take at most 5 tests in total, counting languages and the General Aptitude Test. Choose them based on the programmes and universities you want — for example, Delhi University's B.A. (Hons) programmes in 2026 needed one language + three domain subjects (or two languages + two domain subjects). Check each university's requirements.

Not yet. NTA publishes the syllabus with each year's information bulletin. Until the CUET (UG) 2027 syllabus is out, prepare from the 2026 syllabus on cuet.nta.nic.in — it is the latest official version.
