When is the IISER 2027 (IAT) exam date?
The IAT 2027 date hasn't been announced yet. IAT 2026 was a computer-based test on 7 June 2026 — its date was announced on 7 February 2026 — so expect IAT 2027 in June 2027, with the date announced early in 2027 on the official admission portal, iiseradmission.in.
What is the IISER IAT 2027 exam pattern?
In IAT 2026 there was one computer-based paper of 60 questions — 15 each in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics — with +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one, for 240 marks in 3 hours, in Hindi or English. Your rank is based on your total out of 240, not on your best three subjects. Check the 2027 brochure for any change.
What do the IISERs offer?
There are seven IISERs (Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research) — Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati. All offer a five-year BS-MS dual degree focused on research in the basic sciences, and a few offer four-year BS or B.Tech. programmes (for example at IISER Bhopal and IISER Tirupati). IAT is the only admission route to the IISERs — the JEE Advanced and KVPY channels were dropped in 2024. If you are aiming for a research career in pure sciences rather than engineering or medicine, the IISERs are a strong target.
When will IISER 2027 registration open?
The 2027 dates aren't announced. For IAT 2026 the application portal was open from 5 March to 13 April 2026, with a correction window on 16–18 April — so expect registration around March–April 2027 on iiseradmission.in. You can apply while your Class 12 result is awaited, but you must upload it before counselling.
Is there negative marking in IISER IAT 2027?
Yes. In IAT 2026 each correct answer earned 4 marks and each wrong answer cost 1 mark. This means you should avoid blind guessing — attempt questions where you can reasonably eliminate options, and skip those you have no basis for.
Is Class 12 (all four subjects) needed for IISER 2027?
No, but you must prepare all four. For IAT 2026 you needed Class 12 in the science stream with at least one of Biology or Mathematics, and at least 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Mathematics in Class 12 is compulsory for the B.Tech., BS (Economic Sciences / Economic and Statistical Sciences) and BS-MS (Computational and Data Sciences) programmes. The IAT paper has equal questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and ranks you on the total out of 240, so prepare all four.
