JEE Main 2027 Registration — Step-by-Step Guide
How to register for JEE Main 2027: step-by-step process, documents, fees (2026 rates), expected dates on jeemain.nta.nic.in, and mistakes to avoid.
JEE Main registration is done online at jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration is expected to open in late October or November 2026 (the 2026 form ran from 31 October to 27 November 2025). The process takes 20–30 minutes if you have everything ready: Aadhaar or DigiLocker, your Class 10 certificate, a passport photo and a signature scan. In 2026 the fee for one paper was ₹1,000 for General male candidates, ₹900 for EWS/OBC-NCL male, ₹800 for female and ₹500 for SC/ST/PwD.
Registration Process — Step by Step
Step 1: Create Your NTA Account
- Go to jeemain.nta.nic.in
- Click "New Registration"
- Enter your name (exactly as in Class 10 marksheet), date of birth, mobile number, and email
- Verify via OTP sent to mobile and email
- Set a strong password — you will need this for admit card download and result checking
- Note down your Application Number — this is your unique identifier for everything JEE-related
Step 2: Fill Personal Details
- Name: Must match Class 10 marksheet exactly (including spelling and middle name)
- Father's and Mother's name: As per Class 10 certificate
- Date of birth: As per Class 10 marksheet (not Aadhaar if different)
- Category: General / OBC-NCL / SC / ST / EWS — choose carefully, this affects cutoff and seat reservation
- State of eligibility: Where you passed/are passing Class 12 — this determines your home state quota in JoSAA
- Identity verification: Through Aadhaar or DigiLocker, or by uploading another ID proof — keep your Aadhaar photo, name and date of birth up to date
Step 3: Fill Academic Details
- Qualifying exam: Class 12 / equivalent
- Year of passing: for JEE Main 2027 — 2025, 2026, or appearing in 2027
- Board: CBSE / ICSE / State Board — select from dropdown
- Roll number: Class 12 roll number (or leave blank if you are appearing)
- Percentage/CGPA: Enter if passed; skip if appearing
- Required subjects: For NIT+ admission through a Paper 1 rank you need Physics, Maths, a language, one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational, and one more subject
Step 4: Upload Documents
| Document | Format | Size | Specifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live Photograph | Captured in the form | — | Switch on your camera or webcam while filling the form |
| Photograph | JPG/JPEG | 10KB–200KB | Recent, in colour, white background, 80% of face visible including ears, no mask |
| Signature | JPG/JPEG | 10KB–100KB | Clear and legible |
| Class 10 Certificate / Marksheet | 50KB–300KB | Clearly legible | |
| ID Proof (only if not verifying via Aadhaar/DigiLocker) | JPG/JPEG | 10KB–200KB | Clearly legible |
| PwD / UDID Certificate | 50KB–300KB | Only if applicable |
Sizes and formats are from NTA's JEE Main 2026 bulletin; category/EWS certificate details are typed into the form rather than uploaded. Check the 2027 bulletin before you apply.
Common rejection reasons: Blurry photo, face not clearly visible, oversized files, wrong format. A recent studio photo on a white background avoids most problems.
Step 5: Choose Paper and Exam City
- Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech): Most students choose this — it covers Physics, Chemistry, Maths
- Paper 2A (B.Arch): Maths, Aptitude, Drawing — for architecture aspirants
- Paper 2B (B.Planning): Maths, Aptitude, Planning — for planning courses
- Exam city: Choose up to 4 cities, in order of priority, within the state of your permanent or present address. NTA allots based on availability.
- Medium of paper: English, Hindi, or one of 11 regional languages (13 in all) — the paper comes in English plus the language you choose

10 Common Registration Mistakes to Avoid
- Name mismatch: Name must match Class 10 marksheet exactly. Even one spelling difference can cause problems during verification.
- Wrong category: OBC candidates must be OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) and will need a valid certificate at counselling — enter the certificate details correctly.
- Blurry documents: Upload clear, readable scans. NTA does not issue admit cards for applications with unclear photographs or signatures.
- Wrong date of birth: Use DOB from Class 10 marksheet, not Aadhaar (if they differ).
- Waiting until the last day: Server crashes are common on the last day. Register at least 3–5 days before the deadline.
- Not saving confirmation: Download and save the confirmation page immediately. You cannot access it later if the portal closes.
- Wrong state of eligibility: This determines your home state for JoSAA. Choose the state where you are passing/passed Class 12.
- Not checking correction window dates: NTA gives a brief window to fix errors. Miss it and your mistakes are permanent.
- Forgetting password: Write down your application number and password. Store in a safe place.
- Not applying for Session 2: If you took Session 1 and want another attempt, log in during the Session 2 window and apply and pay for Session 2 — it does not happen automatically.

What is the JEE Main registration fee?
NTA will confirm the 2027 fee in the information bulletin. For JEE Main 2026 (per session, exam centre in India), one paper cost ₹1,000 for General male, ₹900 for EWS/OBC-NCL male, ₹800 for female candidates (General/EWS/OBC-NCL), and ₹500 for SC/ST/PwD/PwBD and third gender candidates. Paper 1 + Paper 2 together cost ₹2,000 (General/EWS/OBC-NCL male), ₹1,600 (female) and ₹1,000 (SC/ST/PwD/PwBD, third gender). Payment is online by UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking.
What documents are needed for JEE Main registration?
For JEE Main 2026 NTA asked for: (1) identity verification through Aadhaar or DigiLocker (or a scanned ID proof, JPG 10–200 KB), (2) a live photograph captured during the form, (3) a recent passport-size photograph (colour, white background, face clearly visible including ears, JPG 10–200 KB), (4) a scanned signature (JPG 10–100 KB), (5) your Class 10 certificate or marksheet (PDF 50–300 KB), and (6) a PwD/UDID certificate if applicable (PDF 50–300 KB). Category/EWS details are entered in the form; the certificate itself was not uploaded. Check the 2027 bulletin for any changes.
Can I edit my JEE Main application after submission?
Only during the correction window NTA announces after registration closes, and only in the fields NTA opens for correction — the list is published in the correction notice. Corrections sent by post, email or WhatsApp are not accepted. Check every field before you submit, and use the correction window carefully — it is your last chance.
How many attempts are allowed for JEE Main?
JEE Main has 2 sessions each year (January and April). You can appear in either or both, and the better score is used for ranking. You can appear in the year you pass Class 12 and the two years after it, so a 2025 pass-out can appear in 2025, 2026 and 2027. There is no age limit.
What if I have not passed Class 12 yet?
You can still register. Select 'appearing' as your Class 12 status (for JEE Main 2027, that means appearing in 2027). You must pass Class 12 with the required subjects to take admission — JoSAA checks this at counselling.
Can I change my exam city after registration?
Only if NTA includes city choice in the correction window. You can pick up to four exam cities, in order of priority, within the state of your permanent or present address. NTA tries to allot one of your choices but may allot a different city for administrative reasons, and its decision is final.
