JEE Main Syllabus — Complete Chapter List (PCM)
JEE Main syllabus for Physics, Chemistry and Maths — NTA's official unit list, topics removed since 2024, rough question counts and chapters to prioritise.
The JEE Main syllabus covers Physics, Chemistry, and Maths from Class 11 and 12 NCERT — 20 units in Physics, 20 in Chemistry and 14 in Maths in NTA's official 2026 syllabus. The exam has 75 questions (25 per subject) for 300 marks. High-weightage areas (estimates): Mechanics & Electrodynamics (Physics), Organic & Physical Chemistry (Chemistry), Calculus & Algebra (Maths).
The "Weightage" columns are rough question counts estimated from recent papers — NTA publishes no weightage, and the count for any chapter varies from shift to shift.

Is JEE Main syllabus based on Class 11 and 12?
Yes. JEE Main syllabus covers topics from both Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT (CBSE curriculum). NTA doesn't publish a Class 11 vs Class 12 split, but past papers draw roughly evenly from both. Both years are equally important — do not skip Class 11 chapters as they form the foundation for Class 12 topics.
Has NTA changed the JEE Main syllabus recently?
The last big change was for JEE Main 2024, when NTA cut several topics to match the rationalised NCERT books. The official 2025 and 2026 syllabi are word for word the same. NTA hasn't published the 2027 syllabus yet — check the information bulletin on jeemain.nta.nic.in when it comes out.
Which chapters carry the most marks in JEE Main?
NTA publishes no chapter weightage, so these are rough estimates from recent papers: Physics — Mechanics (~30%), Electrodynamics (~25%), Modern Physics (~10%). Chemistry — Organic, Physical and Inorganic roughly a third each. Maths — Calculus (~30%), Algebra (~25%), Coordinate Geometry (~20%). Start with these areas, but the mix changes from shift to shift.
Is NCERT enough for JEE Main?
NCERT is necessary but not sufficient for JEE Main. For Chemistry (especially Inorganic), NCERT is the primary source — many Chemistry questions stay close to the NCERT text. For Physics and Maths, NCERT covers concepts but you need additional practice from books like HC Verma, DC Pandey, RD Sharma, and Cengage for problem-solving skills.
How many questions are asked from each subject?
JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) has 75 questions — 25 each from Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Each subject has Section A (20 MCQs) and Section B (5 numerical value questions), all compulsory. Total marks: 300 — +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer (MCQ or numerical), 0 if left blank.
Which topics were deleted from the JEE Main syllabus?
For JEE Main 2024 NTA removed, among others: States of Matter, Surface Chemistry, s-Block Elements, Hydrogen, Isolation of Metals (metallurgy), Environmental Chemistry, Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life (Chemistry); Communication Systems (Physics); and Mathematical Induction and Mathematical Reasoning (Maths). They stayed out in 2025 and 2026. Prepare everything in NTA's current syllabus and skip what it no longer lists.
