NEET 2027 Expected Cutoff — Category-Wise Score Predictions

Predicted NEET 2027 cutoff scores for General, OBC, SC, ST categories with government and private college cutoffs and AIIMS/JIPMER trends.

The single most common question NEET aspirants ask is: how much do I actually need to score? This guide gives you predicted NEET 2027 cutoffs for every category, government and private colleges, and the top institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER. These predictions are based on 4 years of NTA data and observable trends.

How NEET Cutoffs Work

NEET has two types of cutoffs. The qualifying cutoff is the minimum score to be eligible for counselling — set at the 50th percentile for General/EWS and 40th percentile for OBC/SC/ST. Then there are admission cutoffs, which are the closing ranks at individual colleges. The qualifying cutoff is easy to clear; getting into a good college is the hard part.

SC40th107110108 - 115
ST40th107110108 - 115

Clearing the qualifying cutoff is not the challenge. With 20+ lakh students appearing for roughly 1 lakh MBBS seats, the real competition is in admission cutoffs.

AIIMS and JIPMER Cutoff Trends

Since AIIMS and JIPMER admissions now happen through NEET (no separate exam), their cutoffs are simply the closing NEET ranks during AIQ counselling.

Institution2025 Closing Rank (Gen)2026 Closing Rank (Gen)2027 Expected
AIIMS Delhi586450 - 70
JIPMER Puducherry210230200 - 250

Factors That Will Affect NEET 2027 Cutoff

  1. Candidate count: If registrations cross 24 lakh (up from 23+ lakh in 2026), expect slightly higher cutoffs at popular colleges.
  2. New medical colleges: The government has been adding MBBS seats aggressively. More seats means lower closing ranks at newer colleges, but top colleges remain unaffected.
  3. Paper difficulty: A harder paper drops raw scores but the percentile-based qualifying cutoff stays similar. However, admission cutoffs (in terms of marks) decrease if the paper is tougher.
  4. OMR vs digital shift: If NTA moves NEET to CBT format (as discussed but not confirmed), it could change scoring dynamics significantly.
  5. State quota variations: States with new medical colleges will see lower state quota cutoffs. States with high competition (Rajasthan, UP, Maharashtra) will maintain high cutoffs.

Setting Your Target Score

Here is how to set a realistic target for NEET 2027:

  • Government college (any): Target 550+ marks. This gives you options in Tier 3 government colleges or good private colleges.
  • Good government college: Target 620+ marks. This opens up Tier 2 state colleges and newer AIIMS.
  • Top government college: Target 680+ marks. This puts you in contention for Tier 1 institutions.
  • AIIMS Delhi / JIPMER: Target 700+ marks. There is no margin for error — you need near-perfect scores in at least two subjects.

Whatever your target, the preparation strategy is the same — master NCERT, solve previous year papers, and take regular mock tests. The difference is in the depth of practice and consistency.

These cutoff predictions are based on NEET data from 2023-2026 and are estimates only. Actual cutoffs depend on exam difficulty, candidate count, and seat availability. For preparation strategy, see our NEET 2027 preparation guide. Last updated: March 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the expected NEET 2027 cutoff for General category?

The NEET 2027 General category qualifying cutoff is expected to be around 720-138 marks out of 720 at the 50th percentile. For government medical college admission, you typically need 600+ marks (General) to be competitive. The qualifying cutoff merely makes you eligible for counselling — actual admission requires much higher scores.

Based on recent trends, AIIMS Delhi MBBS admission requires a NEET score of 700+ (out of 720) or a rank within the top 50-100 for General category. For reserved categories, the closing rank is slightly relaxed but still within the top 500-1,000. AIIMS admission is extremely competitive regardless of category.

For government medical colleges through AIQ counselling, General category students typically need 550-620+ marks depending on the state and college. Top government colleges need 650+. For state quota seats, cutoffs vary significantly — some states have lower cutoffs than others based on the number of seats and applicants.

NEET cutoffs have been gradually rising due to increasing competition (20+ lakh candidates). If the number of MBBS seats increases significantly or if the paper difficulty rises, cutoffs could stabilize or drop slightly. Otherwise, expect a marginal increase of 5-10 marks in admission cutoffs compared to 2026.

The qualifying cutoff is the minimum score to be eligible for counselling — set at the 50th percentile for General and 40th percentile for reserved categories. The admission cutoff is the last rank at which a student gets admitted to a specific college and course. Qualifying cutoff is low; admission cutoffs at good colleges are very high.

Yes, private medical colleges have lower admission cutoffs than government colleges. With 400-500 marks, you can get admission in many private medical colleges, though fees are significantly higher (Rs 15-60 lakh per year vs Rs 50,000-2 lakh for government). Deemed universities may accept scores as low as 350-400 marks.

SC and ST category qualifying cutoff is set at the 40th percentile, which translates to roughly 105-115 marks out of 720. For government college admission, SC/ST candidates typically need 450-520+ marks. The reservation benefit applies to seat allocation during counselling, not to the qualifying cutoff.

In AIQ (All India Quota) counselling, cutoffs are generally higher because students from all states compete for 15% of government seats. State quota cutoffs vary — states with fewer medical colleges (like northeastern states) may have lower cutoffs, while competitive states like Rajasthan and UP have cutoffs close to AIQ levels.
