Biology Syllabus — NEET 2027
Biology carries 360 marks (50% of the paper), making it the most important subject. The NMC syllabus has 10 Biology units, and the questions are split between Botany and Zoology, each carrying 180 marks. Most questions track the NCERT text closely.

Physics Syllabus — NEET 2027
Physics carries 180 marks (25% of the paper) across 20 units. NEET Physics is conceptual but includes numerical problems. It is often the subject where students lose the most marks, so strong preparation here is a differentiator.

The Chemistry syllabus also has a Principles Related to Practical Chemistry unit: detecting elements and functional groups, preparing compounds such as Mohr's salt and acetanilide, titrations with KMnO4, and salt analysis. Not in the NEET syllabus: States of Matter, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, Surface Chemistry, Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life.

Class 12 has a slight edge in question count, but Class 11 topics are foundational. You cannot understand Class 12 Genetics without Class 11 Cell Biology, or Class 12 Electrochemistry without Class 11 Thermodynamics. Both years are equally important for preparation.

How to Use This Syllabus Guide
- Map each chapter to your NCERT textbook. The chapter names in the tables above are NCERT chapter titles; the unit names follow the NMC syllabus.
- Start with high-priority chapters. Complete all "High" priority chapters before moving to "Medium" and "Low".
- Use weightage to allocate study time. Genetics deserves more hours than Structural Organisation — but treat the percentages as rough guides, not official figures.
- Track completion. Print this list and tick off chapters as you finish them — first pass, revision, PYQs done.
- Check official updates. The NEET 2027 syllabus and bulletin will be published on neet.nta.nic.in and nmc.org.in. Until then, the 2026 syllabus is the one to follow.

How many chapters are in the NEET syllabus?
The NMC syllabus for NEET-UG 2026 has 50 units: 20 in Physics, 20 in Chemistry and 10 in Biology. Each unit covers one or more NCERT chapters. Some chapters from older syllabi are no longer included, such as Digestion and Absorption, Transport in Plants, States of Matter, s-Block Elements and Polymers.
Is Class 11 syllabus important for NEET?
Very important. Class 11 topics make up a large part of the paper (roughly 40-45% by approximate estimates from recent papers; NTA publishes no official split). Critical Class 11 topics include Cell Biology, Plant and Animal Morphology, Plant Physiology, Human Physiology, Mechanics (Physics) and foundational Chemistry chapters. Ignoring Class 11 means losing a big share of the paper.
Which chapters were removed from NEET syllabus recently?
NMC trimmed the syllabus for NEET 2024, and it has stayed the same since. Chapters that are not in the current NEET syllabus include Digestion and Absorption, Transport in Plants, Mineral Nutrition, Reproduction in Organisms, Environmental Issues (Biology); States of Matter, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, Surface Chemistry, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life (Chemistry); and transistors in Physics. Should I study from NCERT or reference books for NEET?
Start with NCERT — always. For Biology, NCERT is the core and covers most of what is asked. For Physics and Chemistry, use NCERT for theory and add reference books (H.C. Verma for Physics, N. Avasthi for Physical Chemistry) for problem practice. Never start a reference book before completing the NCERT chapter.
Is the NEET and JEE syllabus the same for Physics and Chemistry?
There is a large overlap, but they are not identical. JEE has more mathematical rigour in Physics and more advanced Organic Chemistry mechanisms. NEET Physics is more conceptual and application-based. If you are preparing for both, prepare at JEE level for the shared topics and check the NEET syllabus for anything JEE does not cover.
