UGC NET runs twice a year — June and December — and qualifying once can unlock JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility, and PhD admission. Because there are two cycles, missing one is not the end of the year. How the June 2026 cycle went: NTA held it from 22 June 2026 in 286 cities and declared results for 84 subjects on 28 August 2026 — 6,07,151 candidates appeared, 4,241 qualified for JRF and Assistant Professor, 45,904 for Assistant Professor and PhD admission, and 97,434 for PhD admission only. English, Commerce and Sociology were re-conducted on 9–10 September 2026, with results on 17 September 2026.

When is the UGC NET 2027 exam date?
NTA hasn't announced any UGC NET 2027 dates yet. It holds UGC NET twice a year, in a June cycle and a December cycle. In 2026 the June cycle was held from 22 June (result 28 August), so expect the June 2027 cycle in June 2027 and the December 2027 cycle in December 2027 (the December 2025 cycle ran from 31 December 2025 to 7 January 2026). Before that comes the December 2026 cycle, which NTA's tentative exam calendar (16 September 2026) places on 14–19 December 2026. How many times is UGC NET conducted in 2027?
Twice — a June cycle and a December cycle. Both are separate exams with separate notifications and applications. If you do not qualify in the June cycle, you can reattempt in December of the same year, so 2027 effectively gives you two chances.
What is the UGC NET 2027 exam pattern?
UGC NET is a computer-based test with two papers taken in a single 3-hour session with no break. Paper 1 (50 questions, 100 marks) tests teaching and research aptitude and is common to all candidates. Paper 2 (100 questions, 200 marks) is on your chosen subject. There is no negative marking. What is the difference between JRF and Assistant Professor in UGC NET?
UGC NET results fall into three categories: (1) JRF + Assistant Professor + PhD admission, (2) Assistant Professor + PhD admission, and (3) PhD admission only. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) carries a fellowship for research and has the highest cut-off and an age limit (30, with relaxations). Assistant Professor and PhD admission have no upper age limit. When will UGC NET 2027 registration open?
Registration opens with each cycle's information bulletin. For the June 2026 cycle it ran from 29 April to 20 May 2026, and for the December 2025 cycle from 7 October to 7 November 2025 — so expect late April–May 2027 for the June cycle and October–November 2027 for the December cycle. Registration for the December 2026 cycle is expected in October 2026 (not announced yet). Apply online on ugcnet.nta.nic.in; a short correction window follows the deadline.
Is UGC NET 2027 score valid for PhD admission?
Yes. JRF-qualified candidates are admitted to PhD programmes through an interview. For candidates in the 'Assistant Professor + PhD' and 'PhD only' categories, NET marks carry 70% weightage and the university's interview 30%, and the NET marks stay valid for PhD admission for one year from the result. Check each university's PhD admission notice for its own process.
