Functions of Political Parties

Types of Party Systems
- One-party system: Only one party allowed to rule (not democratic) - Example: China
- Two-party system: Power alternates between two main parties - Examples: USA, UK
- Multi-party system: Several parties compete for power - Example: India
Recognition of Political Parties
- All parties must register with Election Commission
- Recognized parties get special facilities like unique election symbols
- State Party: 6% votes in Assembly election + 2 seats OR 6% votes in 4 states + 4 Lok Sabha seats
