Meaning and Definition of Indian Culture
- Culture is the life style of a particular population — a complex unit of what we think, do, and have as members of society.
- According to Bhupendra Brahmbhatt: 'Indian culture means the culture containing features of humanity, tolerance, immensity, unity, secularism and continuity.'
- Indian culture worships both sentiments and intellect, combining liberal feelings with pure knowledge.
Features of Indian Culture
- 1. Continuity and Change: Indian culture has survived great upheavals (spread of Jainism, Buddhism, Mughal era, colonial rule) while maintaining its basic elements.
- 2. Diversity and Unity: India has people of different castes, languages, religions, festivals, arts, music, and dance — yet a feeling of being citizens of one country persists.
