Key Topics to Revise

1

1. Concept of Communication and Components

  • Data communication means exchange of data between two or more networked or connected devices like laptops, PCs, printers, routers, and mobile phones.
  • Data can be text, image, audio, video, or multimedia.
  • Communication is the act of sending or receiving data.
2

2. Capacity of Communication Media

  • The capacity of a channel is measured by bandwidth and data transfer rate.
  • Bandwidth of a channel is the range of frequencies available for transmission of data through that channel.
  • Higher bandwidth usually means higher data transfer rate.
3

3. Types of Data Communication

  • Data communication is broadly classified into three types: simplex, half-duplex, and full-duplex.
  • Simplex communication is one-way communication.
  • Half-duplex communication is two-way communication, but not at the same time.
4

4. Switching Techniques

  • Switching is used to route data through various nodes in a network.
