पात्र-परिचय एवं उनकी भूमिका

  • कुँवर उदय सिंह (14 वर्ष): चित्तौड़ के महाराणा साँगा का सबसे छोटा पुत्र, मेवाड़ का उत्तराधिकारी। चंचल, बाल-स्वभाव वाला, रूठने की आदत। वह भोला और मासूम बालक है जो खतरे से अनजान है।
  • पन्ना धाय माँ (30 वर्ष): खीची जाति की राजपूतानी। उदय सिंह की संरक्षिका। स्वामिभक्ति, साहस और त्याग की अद्वितीय प्रतीक। एकांकी की नायिका।
  • चंदन (13 वर्ष): पन्ना का पुत्र। साहस और स्नेह का प्रतीक। निर्दोष, सरल, साहसी बालक जो माँ से अत्यन्त प्रेम करता है। बलिदान का प्रतीक।

एकांकी का कथा-सार (घटनाक्रम)

  • आरम्भ: चित्तौड़ में रात्रिकाल, नेपथ्य में नारियों का नृत्य-गान। कुँवर उदय सिंह दौड़ते हुए आते हैं, पन्ना से नाच दिखाने की ज़िद करते हैं।
  • पन्ना-उदय सिंह संवाद: पन्ना उदय सिंह को 'चित्तौड़ के सूरज' और 'कुल-दीपक' कहती है। उदय सिंह रूठकर चले जाते हैं।
  • सोना का आगमन: बनवीर द्वारा आयोजित नाच-रंग की प्रशंसा करती है। पन्ना उसे चित्तौड़ की वास्तविकता और संभावित षड्यंत्र के बारे में चेताती है।
