1. Matrix Basics

  • A matrix is a set of numbers arranged in rows and columns to form a rectangular array.
  • The numbers inside a matrix are called elements or entries.
  • The order of a matrix is written as rows × columns.

  • Row matrix: a matrix consisting of only one row.
  • Column matrix: a matrix consisting of only one column.
  • Diagonal matrix: all non-diagonal elements are zero.

  • Transpose flips the rows and columns of a matrix.
  • Transpose is written using the superscript T, as A^T.
  • Inverse is the matrix that gives the identity matrix when multiplied with the original matrix.
