What to Focus On

  • Ungrouped data is an unorganised list of values.
  • Grouped data is arranged into classes or frequencies.
  • Exclusive form uses touching class limits.

  • Mean, median and mode are measures of central tendency.
  • Mean can be found by direct, deviation, or step-deviation method.
  • Median depends on ordered position, not on every value equally.

  • Range uses only the extreme values.
  • Mean deviation uses absolute values.
  • Variance uses squared deviations from the mean.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Inclusive class intervals can be used directly in median, mode, and mean formulas as if they were continuous class intervals.

Median for grouped data is found by taking the class with the highest frequency.

Mode and median are the same thing because both represent the centre of the data.
