Pulp

Step 1: Inside every tooth, there is a soft inner part. Step 2: This soft part is called the pulp. Step 3: The pulp contains nerve endings and blood vessels. Step 4: The nerve endings in the pulp send messages to the brain – for example, when we bite something very cold, we feel a sensation because of the pulp. Step 5: Enamel and dentine are hard layers, and cementum covers the root – none of these contain nerves or blood vessels.

Incisors

Step 1: Different types of teeth have different jobs. Step 2: Incisors are the front teeth – four on the top and four on the bottom. Step 3: They are shaped like tiny chisels with flat, somewhat sharp ends. Step 4: This chisel-like shape makes them perfect for cutting and chopping food. Step 5: Canines tear food, premolars crush food, and molars grind food – so these are all incorrect for cutting.

Canines

Step 1: After the incisors, the next teeth are pointed and sharp. Step 2: These are called canines. Step 3: There are four canines – two on top and two on the bottom. Step 4: Their sharp, pointed shape helps in tearing food apart, like tearing a piece of roti or meat. Step 5: Incisors cut, premolars crush, and wisdom teeth are just extra molars at the back – none of them tear food.

Step 1: Premolars are the teeth located next to the canines. Step 2: There are four premolars on the top jaw and four premolars on the bottom jaw. Step 3: So, the total number of premolars = 4 (top) + 4 (bottom) = 8. Step 4: Premolars have ridges and are used for crushing and grinding food. Step 5: 4 is too few, 6 is incorrect, and 12 is the number of molars including wisdom teeth – so 8 is the right answer.
