  • Aurangzeb was the son of Shah Jahan and the Subedar of Deccan under Shah Jahan.
  • He won the war of succession in 1658 and took the title Alamgir.
  • He ruled for fifty years.

  • There was no law of succession among the Mughals, so wars of succession happened whenever a ruler died.
  • After Aurangzeb’s death in 1707, Muazzam won the succession struggle and took the title Bahadur Shah.
  • After Bahadur Shah, Jahandar Shah became ruler.
