Tuples: Basic Idea and Creation

  • A tuple is an ordered sequence of elements of different data types, such as integer, float, string, list or even a tuple.
  • Tuple elements are enclosed in round brackets and separated by commas.
  • Tuple elements are accessed by index starting from 0.

Tuple Properties and Operations

  • Tuples are immutable; their elements cannot be changed after creation.
  • Attempting item assignment on a tuple raises TypeError: 'tuple' object does not support item assignment.
  • An element inside a tuple may itself be mutable, such as a list, and that inner list can be modified.

Tuple Methods and Built-in Functions

  • len() returns the number of elements in a tuple.
  • tuple() creates an empty tuple when no argument is given, and converts a sequence into a tuple when one is passed.
  • count() returns how many times an element appears in a tuple.

Tuple Assignment and Nested Tuples

  • Tuple assignment allows values from a tuple on the right side to be assigned to variables on the left side.
  • The number of variables on the left must be the same as the number of elements in the tuple on the right.
  • If the right side is an expression, it is evaluated first and then assigned.
