Meristematic tissue cells are very active with dense cytoplasm, thin cellulose walls, prominent nuclei, and they lack vacuoles. Large vacuoles would interfere with their ability to divide rapidly.

Xylem transports water and minerals vertically, provides mechanical support through xylem fibers, and stores food in xylem parenchyma. Phloem transports food, not xylem.
