How SGPA to CGPA Conversion Works

CGPA = Σ(SGPA × Credits) ÷ Σ(Credits)

Example:

  • Sem 1: SGPA 8.5 × 20 credits = 170
  • Sem 2: SGPA 8.0 × 20 credits = 160
  • Sem 3: SGPA 8.8 × 22 credits = 193.6

Total weighted = 523.6, Total credits = 62

CGPA = 523.6 ÷ 62 = 8.45

Percentage = 8.45 × 9.5 = 80.28%

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my overall CGPA from all semesters?

Multiply each semester's SGPA by that semester's credits, add those up, and divide by the total credits. Formula: CGPA = Σ(SGPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ(credits). Only if every semester has the same credits is CGPA the plain average of your SGPAs.

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is your grade point average for one semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) combines every semester so far, weighted by credits — it's the number on your final degree marksheet.

For engineering (usually 8 semesters), enter each semester's SGPA and credits from your grade cards. The calculator computes CGPA = Σ(SGPA × credits) ÷ Σ(credits) on the 10-point scale most Indian universities use. If your university converts CGPA to percentage with its own formula, use that rather than the ×9.5 estimate shown here.

Yes, CGPA and overall GPA are the same concept — the cumulative grade point average across all semesters of your program.
