Frequently Asked Questions

How is WBJEE rank calculated?

Your General Merit Rank comes from your total in Paper I (Mathematics, 75 questions, 100 marks) and Paper II (Physics and Chemistry, 40 questions each, 100 marks) — 200 marks in all. Ties are broken first by fewer negative marks across all three subjects, then by more positive marks in Maths + Physics, then Maths + Chemistry, with further checks after that and finally age.

Yes, in two of the three categories. Category 1 questions carry 1 mark with −¼ for a wrong answer; Category 2 carry 2 marks with −½; Category 3 carry 2 marks, can have more than one correct option, give partial credit and have no negative marking.

WBJEEB reported 94,901 candidates who appeared in WBJEE 2026 (held on 24 May 2026), of whom 92,753 were ranked. Results came out on 18 June 2026. Everyone who sits both papers gets a rank — there is no qualifying cut-off.

Jadavpur's Computer Science (home state) closed at ranks of roughly 202–238 in 2025. Other branches close later and all cut-offs move every year, so check the previous year's WBJEE counselling results before choosing.
