CBSE Class 9 Preparation Guide

Class 9 has no board exam — your school sets the annual exam — but it is the base for your Class 10 board exams. From 2026-27, Class 9 follows a new syllabus and new NCERT textbooks. Here is how to prepare.

Step 1 — Know Your Syllabus

• Use the 2026-27 syllabus from cbseacademic.nic.in, or our Class 9 syllabus guide — chapter names have changed.
• List all chapters subject-wise and tick off what you have already covered.
• Highlight chapters you find difficult — these need extra time.
• Class 9 builds the foundation for Class 10 boards — take it seriously.

Step 2 — Create a Realistic Study Plan

• Divide remaining days by subjects — allocate more time to weaker subjects.
• Include revision days — at least 20% of your total time should be revision.
• Use the Pomodoro technique — 45 minutes of study, 10-minute breaks.
• Keep time each week for practice questions and, closer to the exam, full practice papers.

Step 3 — Subject-Wise Strategy

• Maths — focus on numericals. Practise daily without fail.
• Science — understand concepts through experiments and diagrams.
• Social Science — use mind maps for dates, events, and geography.
• English/Hindi — read the textbook, practise grammar, and writing formats.

Step 4 — Exam Day Tips

• Read the entire question paper first.
• Start with questions you are most confident about.
• Manage time strictly — do not spend too long on any question.
• Keep 15 minutes for revision at the end.
