Karnataka students apply for most state scholarships on one portal, the State Scholarship Portal (ssp.karnataka.gov.in). Here are the main schemes. Central schemes such as NMMS and the Central Sector Scheme are open to Karnataka students too — see our government scholarships guide.
State Schemes
- Post-matric scholarship and fee reimbursement for SC and ST students — fees plus a maintenance allowance for students from Class 11 onwards, within the income limit (Social Welfare and Scheduled Tribes Welfare departments)
- Post-matric scholarship and fee concession for backward classes — from the Backward Classes Welfare Department, by category and income
- Vidyasiri — a monthly food and accommodation allowance for backward-classes students in post-matric courses who study away from home and don't have a government or aided hostel seat; it does not cover fees
- Minority scholarships — pre-matric and post-matric support for minority students from the Minorities Welfare Department
- Sanchi Honnamma Scholarship — for girl students in degree colleges; check the current eligibility rules on the SSP portal
- Arivu education loan — a loan (not a scholarship) from the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation for minority students in professional courses; check the current terms before you apply

- Register with Aadhaar
- Select scheme and fill details
- Upload documents — income, caste, marksheet, institution certificate (some schemes also need a hard copy submitted to your institution)
- Submit before deadline

What is the Vidyasiri scholarship?
A Backward Classes Welfare Department scheme that gives post-matric students from backward classes a monthly allowance for food and accommodation when they study away from home and don't have a seat in a government or aided hostel. It does not pay college fees — those come under the post-matric scholarship and fee concession schemes. Apply on the SSP portal and check the current income limits there.
