NEET 2027 Registration — Step by Step Guide
How to register for NEET 2027 when the form opens (expected February 2027): steps, documents, fee and eligibility, based on NTA's 2026 process.
NEET registration is done online at neet.nta.nic.in. NEET 2027 registration has not opened yet — it is expected in February 2027 (in 2026 the form was open from 8 February to 8 March). The 2026 fee was ₹1,700 for General, ₹1,600 for EWS/OBC-NCL and ₹1,000 for SC/ST/PwBD. You need Aadhaar details, your Class 10 certificate and marksheet, a recent passport-size photo, a live photo, your signature and fingerprint scans.
NEET Eligibility — Quick Check
| Criterion | Requirement (2026 bulletin) |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and foreign nationals |
| Age | At least 17 by 31 December of the exam year. No upper age limit |
| Qualification | Class 12 passed or appearing, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English |
| Minimum Marks in Class 12 | The 2026 bulletin lists no minimum Class 12 percentage for sitting NEET — check admission rules at counselling |
| Subjects Required | Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English — even as additional subjects from a recognised board |
| Number of Attempts | No limit |
Registration Process — Step by Step
Step 1: Create NTA Account
- Visit neet.nta.nic.in
- Click the new registration link
- Enter your personal details — name exactly as on your Class 10 certificate, date of birth, gender, mobile number and email
- Verify your mobile number and email as prompted
- Create a password and choose a security question
- Save your Application Number — you will need this throughout the NEET process
Step 2: Fill Personal & Academic Details
- Name: Exactly as in your Class 10 certificate. Even minor spelling differences cause verification issues.
- Category: General / General-EWS / OBC-NCL / SC / ST. Choose OBC-NCL only if your community is in the Central List of OBCs and you are non-creamy layer.
- Address: Your permanent and present address. Exam city choices are limited to these states, and state quota eligibility is decided later by each state's counselling authority under its own domicile rules.
- Class 10 and Class 12 details: Board, school, year of passing or appearing, and roll number.
Step 3: Upload Documents
| Document | Format | Size | Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | JPG/JPEG | 10KB–200KB | Colour or black and white, white background, about 80% face visible including ears, no mask, taken after 1 January of the exam year |
| Live photograph | Taken in the form | — | Captured by webcam, or by phone via the QR code on the form; matched with your Aadhaar photo |
| Signature | JPG/JPEG | 10KB–100KB | Clear and legible |
| Fingers and thumb impressions (both hands) | JPG/JPEG | As specified in the bulletin | Clear impressions; unclear ones lead to rejection |
| Class 10 certificate and marksheet | 50KB–300KB each | For date of birth verification | |
| Category Certificate | 50KB–300KB | OBC-NCL/SC/ST/EWS as applicable | |
| PwBD / UDID Certificate | 50KB–300KB | If applicable — issued by the competent authority | |
| Address proof (present and permanent) | 50KB–300KB | Clearly legible |
NEET asks for fingers and thumb impressions of both hands. Take clear impressions with an ink pad on white paper and scan them before you start. Keep 6–8 passport-size and 4–6 postcard-size (4"×6") colour photos with a white background, as the bulletin advises — you will need them for the exam and counselling.
Step 4: Select Exam City Preferences
- Choose 3 exam cities in order of preference (2026 rule)
- Choices are limited to the state of your permanent or present address
- Centres are allotted by computer, with no human intervention
- NEET was pen-and-paper (OMR) up to 2026; the Centre has announced it moves to computer-based testing from 2027
- Medium of question paper: 13 options — English, Hindi and 11 regional languages
Step 5: Pay Application Fee
| Category | 2026 Fee (India) | 2026 Fee (Outside India) |
|---|---|---|
| General | ₹1,700 | ₹9,500 |
| General-EWS / OBC-NCL | ₹1,600 | ₹9,500 |
| SC / ST / PwBD / PwD / Third gender | ₹1,000 | ₹9,500 |
Payment methods: UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking. Save the payment receipt and the confirmation page. The NEET 2027 fee will be in the 2027 bulletin.

10 Common NEET Registration Mistakes
- Name mismatch: Use your name exactly as on your Class 10 certificate. Discrepancies cause problems during counselling document verification.
- Wrong category certificate: OBC students need an OBC-NCL (non-creamy layer) certificate specifically, not just OBC, and EWS certificates must be valid under the current rules.
- Low-quality photo: The photo must be clear, recent and on a white background with your ears visible. Do not use a selfie — a studio passport photo is worth it.
- Unclear fingerprint scans: NEET asks for fingers and thumb impressions of both hands, and unclear ones are rejected. Prepare them before starting registration.
- Wrong address details: Your exam city choices depend on your permanent and present address. Enter both carefully.
- Wrong subject combination: You need Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English. Check your Class 12 subjects before you apply.
- Last-day registration: Servers slow down near the deadline. Register at least 5 days before the last date.
- Not saving confirmation: Download the confirmation page immediately. Screenshot the payment receipt. Save the application number in 3 places.
- Missing correction window: If you made an error, the correction window is your only chance to fix it. Set a calendar reminder.
- Not checking state rules: Some state counselling bodies have additional eligibility requirements beyond NTA's, such as domicile. Check your state's medical counselling website.
After Registration — Next Steps
- Download your admit card when it is released (about a week before the exam in 2026).
- Visit your exam centre a day before the exam to know the exact location and travel time.
- Carry required items: printed admit card with your photo pasted, one passport-size photo, one postcard-size photo pasted on the proforma, and an original photo ID.
- Do NOT carry: Mobile phone, pens, calculator, any watch, water bottle, food, wallet or bags — these were all barred in 2026.

What is the NEET registration fee?
The NEET 2027 fee has not been announced. In 2026 it was ₹1,700 for General, ₹1,600 for General-EWS and OBC-NCL, and ₹1,000 for SC/ST/PwBD/PwD/third gender candidates. For an exam centre outside India, the fee was ₹9,500 for all categories. Payment was online by UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking.
What is the age limit for NEET 2027?
Under the rule in the 2026 bulletin, you must be at least 17 years old on or before 31 December of the exam year — for NEET 2027 that means born on or before 31 December 2010. There is no upper age limit, as confirmed by NMC and restated in the 2026 bulletin. Check the NEET 2027 information bulletin when it is released.
Can NIOS students appear for NEET?
Yes, if the board is recognised and you have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English. The 2026 bulletin also allows candidates who studied these subjects as additional subjects after Class 12 from a recognised board, provided they can show documentary evidence of passing them.
How many attempts are allowed for NEET?
There is no limit on the number of NEET attempts, and no upper age limit. The only age requirement is the minimum age of 17. Many successful NEET candidates clear the exam on their second or third attempt — there is no stigma in re-attempting.
What happens if I make a mistake in my NEET application?
NTA opens a short correction window after registration closes — in 2026 it ran from 10 to 12 March. Only the fields NTA opens can be edited, and the 2026 bulletin said uploaded photographs, signature and fingerprint impressions could not be corrected, so upload those carefully the first time. After the correction window closes, no changes are possible.
Is Aadhaar mandatory for NEET registration?
In 2026, Aadhaar-based verification was the main route: the live photo you take while applying is matched with your Aadhaar record, and NTA asked every candidate to make sure their Aadhaar name, date of birth, photo and address were up to date. Candidates who verified their identity another way uploaded a scanned identity proof, and anyone whose live photo didn't match had to upload a certificate attested by their school principal or a gazetted officer.
