NMMS (National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship) provides Rs 12,000/year to meritorious students from economically weaker sections. 1 lakh scholarships are awarded annually.

Eligibility

  • Class — studying in Class 8 at government/aided/local body school
  • Marks — 55% in Class 7 (50% for SC/ST)
  • Family income — below Rs 3,50,000/year
  • Not for — students in private unaided schools, KVs, JNVs

Exam Pattern

  • Paper 1: MAT — 90 questions, 90 minutes. Reasoning and mental ability.
  • Paper 2: SAT — 90 questions, 90 minutes. Science, Maths, Social Science from Class 7–8.
  • Qualifying marks — 40% in each paper (32% for SC/ST)

Preparation Tips

  1. Study Class 7 and 8 NCERT thoroughly
  2. Practice reasoning questions — similar to NTSE MAT
  3. Solve previous year NMMS papers — available free on state education websites
  4. Focus on Science and Maths — these are more scoring than Social Science
