कहानी का मुख्य भाव

  • बीज मिट्टी में लंबे समय तक पड़ा रहता है।
  • वसंत और वर्षा के बाद बीज का ढक्कन दरकता है और अंकुर बाहर निकलता है।
  • अंकुर का एक भाग माटी में जाता है, दूसरा भाग ऊपर उठता है।

जड़ और तना

  • अंकुर का जो भाग माटी के भीतर प्रवेश करता है, वह जड़ है।
  • अंकुर का जो भाग ऊपर की ओर बढ़ता है, वह तना है।
  • सभी पेड़-पौधों में जड़ और तना ये दो भाग मिलते हैं।

पौधों का भोजन और जल-संचार

  • पेड़-पौधों के दाँत नहीं होते, इसलिए वे केवल तरल द्रव्य या वायु से भोजन ग्रहण करते हैं।
  • पेड़-पौधे जड़ के द्वारा माटी से रस-पान करते हैं।
  • जड़ों को पानी न मिलने पर पेड़ का भोजन बंद हो जाता है और पेड़ मर जाता है।

पत्ते, वायु और प्रकाश

  • पत्तों में अनगिनत छोटे-छोटे मुँह होते हैं।
  • जब आहार की जरूरत नहीं होती, तब उनके होंठ बंद हो जाते हैं।
  • श्वास-प्रश्वास से बाहर निकलने वाली विषाक्त वायु को अंगारक वायु कहते हैं।
