The Beginnings of Indian Civilisation

Indus Civilisation, Harappan Civilisation, Sindhu-Saraswati Civilisation, Indus-Saraswati Civilisation

The civilisation is known by multiple names: Indus (after the river), Harappan (after the first excavated city), and Sindhu-Saraswati/Indus-Saraswati (after both major rivers). Mauryan Civilisation came much later.

Indus River, Saraswati River, Ghaggar-Hakra River

The civilisation developed along the Indus River and Saraswati River. The Saraswati is now known as Ghaggar-Hakra River. Ganga and Yamuna are not associated with this civilisation.

It had waterproofing with natural bitumen, It had a drain to empty and refill with fresh water, It was surrounded by small rooms

The Great Bath was an elaborate tank with waterproofing, drainage system, and surrounding rooms. It was not for common people's daily bathing as most houses had individual bathrooms.

Wheat, Barley, Cotton, Rice (sometimes)

Harappans grew wheat, barley, some millets, sometimes rice, pulses and vegetables. They were the first in Eurasia to grow cotton. Sugarcane is not mentioned in the evidence.
