1. Main Landforms
- A landform is a physical feature on the surface of Earth that takes shape over millions of years.
- The three main landforms are mountains, plateaus, and plains.
- Deserts are an additional landform beyond the three main types.
2. Mountains
- Mountains are much higher than the surrounding land.
- Mountains have a broad base, steep slopes, and a narrow summit.
- Some mountains are snowcapped depending on height.
3. Mountain Life and Importance
- Montane forests on mountain slopes have conifer trees such as pines, firs, spruce, and deodar.
- At higher altitudes, trees give way to grasses, mosses, and lichen.
- Mountain fauna includes the golden eagle, peregrine falcon, Canadian lynx, snow leopard, ibex, Himalayan tahr, mountain hare, yak, grey fox, and black bear.
4. Plateaus
- A plateau rises from the surrounding land and has a more or less flat surface.
- Some sides of a plateau are often steep slopes.
- Plateaus can be young or old.
