Deadlines and tips

  • Apply on upsconline.nic.in: create your account and Universal Registration Number once, fill the Common Application Form, then the NDA form. UPSC's 2027 windows run about three weeks with no late window, so apply in the first few days, before the portal slows near the deadline.
  • Keep ready your Class 10 certificate (for date of birth), Class 12 marksheet or appearing details, a photograph and signature scanned to the notification's format, and a photo ID such as Aadhaar, PAN, passport, voter ID, driving licence or school photo ID.
  • The NDA II 2026 fee was ₹100; SC/ST candidates, women and eligible wards of JCOs/NCOs/ORs were exempt.
  • Under its 2026 notices, UPSC issued e-admit cards on the last working day of the week before the exam week. Download and print yours as soon as it is out, and carry a photo ID to the centre.
  • After the written result, answer the SSB call-up promptly and pick your interview date early, as slots fill up.

NDA key facts

  • Two papers of 2½ hours each: Mathematics (300 marks) and the General Ability Test (600 marks — English 200, General Knowledge 400).
  • Negative marking: Mathematics +2.5 / −0.83 and GAT +4 / −1.33 per question.
  • Both papers are taken on the same day, on OMR sheets. Mathematics is at Class 11–12 level; the GAT's General Knowledge part covers Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography and current events. Calculators and log tables are not allowed.
  • Written qualifiers face a five-day, 900-mark SSB interview at a Selection Centre; the final merit list is out of 1,800.
  • Unmarried candidates aged about 16½ to 19½ can apply; the birth-date window is fixed in each notification (NDA II 2026: born 2 January 2008 to 1 January 2011). Women are eligible, for the wings and vacancies each notification lists. The Air Force and Navy wings need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • UPSC allows no changes to the application after you submit it — check every field first.

From the latest official notice. Confirm in the 2027 notification from UPSC.

NDA FAQs

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is NDA?
NDA stands for National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination. It is conducted by UPSC and is one of the entrance exams students in India take after Class 12 or graduation.
When is NDA 2027?
NDA I 2027 is on 11 April 2027 (notification 2 December 2026, apply by 22 December 2026) and NDA II 2027 on 19 September 2027 (notification 12 May 2027), as per UPSC's official 2027 calendar. Yes, if you meet the age and education rules for each. They are separate exams with separate notifications and applications (an NDA I form doesn't carry over), so you get two chances a year.
What is the NDA 2027 syllabus?

What is the eligibility for NDA?
Eligibility criteria are published in the official NDA notification or information bulletin — educational qualification, age limits and any domicile rules. Check the latest one on the official website before you apply.
What is a good score in NDA?
A good score depends on the college and course you're targeting. UPSC or the counselling authority publishes cutoffs or closing ranks after each round — use the latest ones as your target.
