Key Topics to Revise

1

1. Understanding Place Value

  • Place value tells us the value of a digit based on its position in a number.
  • In a two-digit number, the rightmost digit is in the ONES place and the left digit is in the TENS place.
  • The place value of a digit = digit × value of its place.
2

2. Understanding Face Value

  • Face value is simply the digit itself, no matter where it is in the number.
  • It does not change with position.
  • Example: In 68, the face value of 6 is 6 and the face value of 8 is 8.
3

3. Expanded and Compact Form

  • Expanded form means writing a number as the sum of the place values of its digits.
  • Compact form is the normal way we write numbers using digits.
  • Example: 56 in expanded form is 50 + 6. In compact form, it's just 56.
