- We use the simple past tense to talk about actions that happened and were completed in the past.
- It does not matter how long ago the action happened — it could be just now, yesterday, or many years ago.
- The verb changes to its past form in this tense.
How to Form the Simple Past Tense
- For regular verbs, add -ed to the base form: play → played.
- If the verb ends in 'e', add only 'd': live → lived.
- If the verb ends in consonant + 'y', change 'y' to 'i' and add -ed: study → studied.
