The Simple Past Tense is used to talk about actions that happened and were completed in the past. For example: 'I played football yesterday.' The action of playing is over.

How do we form the Simple Past Tense for regular verbs?

For regular verbs, we usually add -ed to the base form of the verb. For example: walk → walked, play → played, jump → jumped.
What happens if a verb ends with 'e' when forming the past tense?
Answer
If a verb ends with 'e', we just add 'd'. For example: dance → danced, smile → smiled, live → lived.
What do we do when a verb ends with a consonant + 'y'?
Answer
When a verb ends with a consonant + 'y', we change 'y' to 'i' and add 'ed'. For example: carry → carried, study → studied, try → tried.
