Insert Table dialog box

When you go to Insert → Table → Insert Table, the 'Insert Table' dialog box appears on the screen. This dialog box allows you to enter the number of rows and columns you want in your table. The Table Properties dialog box is used for advanced settings. Cell Size is a group found in the Layout tab, not a dialog box for creating tables. Table Style dialog box does not appear at the time of table creation.

Design tab

The 'Design' tab under 'Table Tools' is used to apply Table Styles. It gives you many ready-made style templates that change the colour and appearance of your table. The Layout tab under Table Tools is used for structural changes like inserting/deleting rows and changing cell size. The Insert tab is for adding a new table, not styling it. The Home tab handles general text formatting.

Insert Below

To insert a row below the currently selected row, you click 'Insert Below' in the Layout tab under Table Tools. 'Insert Above' places a new row above the selected row. 'Insert Left' inserts a new column to the left of the selected column. 'Insert Right' inserts a new column to the right. Remember: rows go above or below, columns go left or right.

Delete Table

The 'Delete Table' option removes the entire table from the document. 'Delete Rows' only removes the selected row(s). 'Delete Columns' removes only the selected column(s). 'Delete Cells' removes only the selected individual cell(s). So if you want to get rid of everything, you choose 'Delete Table'. Be careful — this cannot be undone unless you use Ctrl+Z (Undo).
