  • Malware refers to software intentionally created to cause harm to a user, computer system, or network.
  • The word Malware is composed of Malicious and software.
  • A computer virus is a malicious program with the ability to execute and replicate itself.

2. Sources and Symptoms of Virus Attack

  • A virus can enter through infected storage media such as CD, DVD, and pen drive.
  • Pirated software can carry viruses.
  • Hired computer games or audio or video CDs can also be sources of viruses.

3. Types of Viruses

  • Viruses are classified into four categories: Boot sector virus, Program virus, Macro virus, and Stealth virus.
  • Boot sector virus affects the Boot Sector or Master Boot Record of the hard disk during booting.
  • Boot sector virus can halt the system and may stop the operating system from loading.

4. Other Malware

  • Worm is a self-sufficient computer program that copies and multiplies itself using computer networks and security flaws.
  • Worm does not need another program or user to spread.
  • Worm does not affect the functioning of a system but interrupts services and drastically decreases available memory.
