Switzerland

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters is located in Switzerland. The IOC was constituted in 1894 and is an independent body that controls and directs the Olympic Games. While Greece is the birthplace of ancient Olympics and France is where Coubertin was from, Switzerland houses the IOC headquarters.

Five

The Olympic Flag has five interlocked colored rings on a white background. The five colors are Blue, Black, Red, Yellow, and Green. The flag was designed by Coubertin in 1912, officially presented in 1914, and first hoisted in 1920 at the Antwerp Olympic Games. Each ring represents the unity of the five continents.

1920 in Belgium

The Olympic Flag was first hoisted in 1920 in Belgium at the Antwerp Olympic Games in the main stadium. Although Coubertin designed it in 1912 and it was officially presented in 1914, the actual first hoisting happened at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. 1936 was when the Olympic Torch tradition started in Berlin.

Olympia, Greece

The Olympic Torch is traditionally lit at Olympia in Greece using sun rays. This tradition was initiated during the Berlin Olympics in 1936. From Olympia, the torch is then relayed to the host city. Berlin was where the tradition started, not where it's lit. Paris and Athens are important Olympic cities but not where the torch lighting occurs.
